M1- Smart Exchange Activities

1.       Name of Activity: The Branches of Government
Age Level: Grades 2,3,4
Subject Recommendation: Citizenship, Social Studies
Description of how you plan to implement with students: I teach third grade social studies. During September, we must cover The Constitution. As a precursor to this, we will learn about the three branches of the government. I will use the Smart Exchange Activity to enhance the lesson. Also, because it is interactive, I can use this as a formative assessment to find out what was learned and by whom.

2.       Name of Activity: Measuring in Inches and in Centimeters
Age Level: Grades 2,3,4
Subject Recommendation: Mathematics
Description of how you plan to implement with students: I teach third grade math. We use Every Day Math. This Smart Exchange Activity is meant to be used as a center. I plan to use this to reinforce teaching measurements with inches and centimeters. Students, working in pairs, will enjoy using the computers to help them develop their understanding of measurement.

3.       Name of Activity: Smart Sentences
Age Level: Grades 2,3,4
Subject Recommendation: English Language Arts
Description of how you plan to implement with students: I teach third grade writing. We are also supposed to start teaching grammar according to the new standards. This activity will be used to show students how to create stronger, more interesting sentences in their writing. It will also be an introduction into nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
